(Or how to shamelessly promote yourself in a few easy steps.)
Everything posted about you online can be indexed and stored for future reference. These days, almost everyone has a “digital identity”, the collection of information someone finds when he or she searches your name. Maybe you posted on an Internet message board, or perhaps the local paper interviewed you. Regardless, this information is now freely and easily accessible to anyone who seeks it. Employers, more than anybody, are making such investigations common procedure.
You probably won’t be able to have information on you removed from a website, but by being proactive you can make sure the majority of the results are positive. How? By participating and posting on highly searched, public websites in a positive way.
Here are five easy suggestions to help get the most bang with the least amount of effort!

Emurse is a perfect example of how a Web application should work. The resume creation tool is quick and intuitive, the site is easy to navigate, and the centralized hosting allows me to concentrate on the content of my resume rather than on converting it to different file types (PDF, DOC, RTF) for different job applications: I send out one link, and the employer can choose the format they want - definitely a killer feature. Best of all, after using the service for only a few weeks, I was able to find a better paying, more satisfying job — and they came to me!
Thanks, emurse!
Best,
Chris Finke

We’ve just rolled out to all users better “bot” filtering on web resumes. Basically, this means you will only get an e-mail notification (if you have it turned on) if it’s an actual human viewing your web resume. Hopefully this will cut down on the annoyances some users face by having a popular resume indexed on google.
In regards to the beta program — holy cow did we get a lot of responses. If you haven’t heard from us yet, you will, just be patient as we catalog all the requests. We’ve already added a few, and will probably wait a week or two (holidays might cloud it a bit) until we get the next feature-to-test out the door.
We also have two internships available. We’re looking for folks majoring or studying Marketing, HR or MIS. I’ve received 3 applications through other channels so far, but wanted to open it up to our users as well. It’s an unpaid, scholastic type of thing. E-mail service@emurse.com with your Emurse web resume and a small writing sample.

We’re looking for a few more beta testers for our next release. Space is limited initially, but we will hopefully be expanding the program into the first quarter of 2007. If you are interested, hit us up at service@emurse.com!
